Making our Electrical System Resilient
The Board approved to replace the electrical feeder wires from the outside meters to the electrical panels in each unit in Buildings 8 through 20.
We learned that during Hurricane Helene, seawater entered the underground conduits for each unit and caused degradation of the aluminum cabling. This poses a fire and safety risk and must be corrected as soon as possible.
The aluminum wires will be replaced with copper wires. Our meters was also under water, so we are replacing them with new meters placed above the water line. As well, we are separating the wires for each unit, rather than running multiple units’ wires on one bus.
Obviously, this is a big job, but it makes our system stormworthy and more resilient overall.
If you are in residence, you have seen the industrious electricians at work.
It is a big job, but we will be very happy to have a safer and more resilient system.
