Committees support the work of the board and contribute to all aspects of life at Whitney Beach, making it a better place to live. We invite all residents to learn about the work of the committees, and consider where they would enjoy putting their skills to use. Serving on a committee is a great way to meet people and feel integrated into the community.

Building Committee

The Building Committee reviews all unit remodeling projects by owners and recommends them to the Board of Directors for approval. It also has the responsibility for making sure that our 50-year-old buildings stay in sound condition and appealing to the eye. It makes long-term plans for the maintenance of the common elements, as well as handling emergent needs that arise, and submits project and budget proposals to the Board.

Barney Bauernschmidt, Chair

Docks Committee

The Dock Committee provides for the maintenance of our two docks and our waterfront on Bishop’s Bayou, and helps to make sure that we stay in compliance with the Florida law pertaining our lease. It also develops and manages the system of slip leases for boat owners at Whitney Beach.

Finance Committee

he Finance Committee assists the treasurer and the Board of Directors in planning and managing the budget of the community. It helps plan for the repair and replacement of facilities, and paying for our largest expense of insurance, in addition to handling the unexpected problems that come up.

Ray Maloni, Chair

External Affairs

The External Affairs Committee keeps its finger on the pulse of local politics and development issues that concern our residents, so that we can get involved and voice our opinions to city and county leaders on issues that matter to us. Members attend meetings of the Longboat Key North group.

Bryan Forrester, Chair

Social Committee

The Social Committee organizes Whitney’s famous social events. We usually host about seven major events between Christmas and May, with occasional smaller events in the off-season. Our past events have ranged from the glamorous Evening Under the Stars Holiday events to the perhaps not-so-glamorous Hawaiian Luau, Easter Egg Hunt, and of course, the unforgettable Valentine’s Day Love Boat social. Wine tastings have become a staple by popular demand. The committee, the creativity of the events, and the number of attendees has been growing over the last few years.

The Social Committee also hosts a monthly book group during the season, with approximately seventeen regular attendees.

We welcome volunteers to the committee–it’s a great way to meet new friends and support Whitney.

Disaster Planning Committee

The Committee was formed to learn what other boards were doing to plan for what to do in the case of a catastrophic event. After numerous discussions with the Town of LBK officials in Planning/Zoning and other Association leaders, the committee was successful in completing the necessary steps required by the Town of LBK for submission of the WBA Certificate of As Built Conditions. Detailed Drone video as taken of every square inch of our property, buildings, pools, roads, parking spaces, sidewalks, setbacks, green space, docks, boathouse, kayak storage areas, sheds, and lanai’s. Detailed survey documents were also presented to the Town, which reviewed and approved our submission, which has now been officially filed and recorded. This enables WBA to be well positioned in the case of a catastrophic event to quickly rebuild, if our members vote to do that.

Mike Chaplo, Chair

Legal Committee

The members of our Legal Committee study the association’s legal problems and decide which issues require professional consultation. They present information to the association lawyer efficiently, with a view to keeping our legal bills to a minimum.

Joe El Hindi, Chair

Land Transportation Committee

The Land Transportation Committee oversees all issues relating to the organization and upkeep of our parking lots and driveways and their signage, so that our residents can drive and park easily at Whitney, and so we are in compliance with local regulations.

The Committee administered a re-paving of all of our lots and a re-numbering of our parking spaces in 2022, and designed and contracted for new entrance signs in 2023.

Wynn El-Hindi, Chair

Pools Committee

The Pools Committee keeps our two pools in good repair and makes sure the water is safe to swim in. It communicates with our pool company and our maintenance man to make sure the pools and decks are kept clean. It keeps our residents informed about how to use the pools safely.

Bryan Forrester, Chair

Landscape Committee

The Landscape Committee monitors the state of our plantings and communicates with our landscaping company so that the property is well-maintained. The committee oversees three sub-committees, one for each section of Whitney who keep an eye on the landscaping where they live. The committee members also get their hands dirty, doing planting and weeding.

Walt Stroink, Chair

Insurance Committee

The insurance committee monitors the always-changing and always-challenging Florida insurance situation, consults with our HOA’s insurance broker, and makes recommendations to the Board regarding the policies we should buy and how we can position ourselves to stay well-insured moving into the future.

Needless to say, since October 2024, the committee has been extremely active and crucial for Whitney, helping us file claims and FEMA applications, and organize the restoration work after Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
