Landscape Clean-up
If the appearance of our beloved Whitney has gotten you down in these last months, take heart. There’s some light on the horizon, or at least on the landscape.
Down to Earth Landscape, our newly contracted landscape company, spent three days hard at work on our property. They removed the many dead shrubs and plants that have been an eyesore since Hurricanes Helene and Milton visited us. We are limited in how much we can restore our landscape until the construction is finished, but at least we can remove the debris.
In March, Kara, the owner of Down to Earth walked the property with the Landscape Committee and showed how to distinguish plants that would likely make a comeback from those that would not. She also explained that you don’t want dying branches to be stealing nutrition from parts of plants that can survive.
It has been quite the undertaking to dig out all the dead bushes. An industrious team of Whitney-ites tried to get this project rolling a couple weeks ago and did great some work, but it quickly became clear it was a job for professionals. Down to Earth proved us right and did a fantastic job!
Big shout out to our recently hired maintenance manager, Alex, who has been communicating with the workers and marking the bushes that needed to be removed, to make the crew’s work easier.
And a big thank you to Landscape Committee chair Tom Mott, who got us launched with Down to Earth and organized the clean-up project. We are hopeful we can eventually restore beauty back to Whitney Beach.
